Two pupils from each class in Years 1-6 are members of the School Council for an academic year. Democratic voting procedures take place at the beginning of term in September where children vote for their new council members.
The councillors represent pupil voice and meet fortnightly. Meetings are coordinated by the Enrichment Coordinator. As part of the role, Minutes are taken and councillors should have the opportunity to share information with their class on a weekly basis.
Two pupils in each class in Years 1-6 are chosen to be Playground Friends, this changes on a termly (3 x yearly) basis. Under the guidance of staff on duty, Playground Friends ensure that everybody is happy in the playground and help create games and activities.
Pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 can choose to apply for the role of House Vice-Captain and Captain for each of the four houses; this position is for the academic school year
Every pupil in St Matthew’s is assigned to one of our four houses. Children are part of a team and earn house points for good behaviour, teamwork, hard work in class and following our Golden Rules. Each house has a corresponding colour:
- Whitehall – Blue
- Horse Guards – Yellow
- Buckingham – Red
- Abbey – Green
House point winners are announced during Celebration Assembly and termly prizes are given to the winning house!
