Children In Need

Children and staff at St Matthew’s were fabulous fundraisers today for Children In Need.  Hundreds of fundraising superheroes donated generously and bought delicious cakes in the cake sale after school.

The raffle was a huge success and we are very grateful to all of the local businesses who donated prizes.

Inspirational Assembly with Tosin Oke

This morning, we welcomed athlete Tosin Oke to St Matthew’s.

Tosin is an Olympic Finalist and a Commonwealth Silver Medalist who told us about his exciting athletic and academic career.  Tosin talked to us about endurance, perservance and hard work which linked brilliantly with our school ethos – Belonging, Believing and Achieving.

Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in exciting triple jump workshops with Tosin and learnt about the importance of a healthy diet.

The Big Draw 2015 – Mapping Memories

This year, the school will be participating in the international Big Draw festival. Every October, museums, schools, artists and community organisations across the world hold special drawing events, encouraging people to engage creatively with their environments and with one another.

The theme of this year’s Big Draw is ‘Every Drawing Tells a Story’. On Wednesday 14th October, from 3:30-6:00pm, we will be holding an event in the Year 3 classroom, entitled ‘Mapping Memories’. You can view more details by going to and finding St Matthew’s on the ‘Events’ page. For this event, the floor will be converted into a giant blank canvas! Children, parents and carers will then help to draw a huge map of the local area onto the floor, illustrating it with places that are important to you.

Children are also invited to create a ‘YouCube’ at home, by taking the net of a cube and drawing a scene from their life onto it – something that took place in our local area. This could be your child’s first day at St Matthew’s, learning to ride a bike in St James’s Park, or meeting a new baby brother or sister at St Thomas’ Hospital! You can use any drawing material you wish – feel free to be creative (but please do not use paint). Then, cut out your YouCube, stick it together, and hand it in to Miss Angus by 14th October. There will be a prize for the most creative YouCube drawing.

Nets of cubes will be sent home this week.
