Advent Art

In preparation for Advent, our school council discussed the meaning of Advent with Cameron Abernethy, one of the Pastoral Assistants based at St Matthew’s church. They explored together the importance of watching and waiting during Advent as we get ready for the coming of the Christ child.

The school council worked with Cameron and Mrs Selinas to create an Advent triptych using the colours of the season, purple and gold. The triptych, a picture in three sections, depicts the hillside overlooking Bethlehem just before the angels appeared to announce the good news of Christ’s birth.

You are invited to pop into the chapel at St Matthew’s church during any weekday between
8am-6pm to view the art and take time to consider what you might be watching and waiting for during this Advent season.

We Will Remember Them

Today, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the pupils of St Matthew’s will be observing a two minute silence for Armistice Day which marks the end of the First World War.

Yesterday, pupils in Y1-Y6 participated in a national assembly through a live stream from the Tower of London.  This important service of remembrance involved thousands of pupils all over the United Kingdom.
