Remote Learning

When it is not possible for pupils to learn at school, remote learning (learning from home) will take place
Pupils in Nursery and Reception will access remote learning via Tapestry (and may sometimes use Google Classroom)
Pupils in Years 1-6 will access remote learning via Google Classroom
Pupils can access the learning activities that have been set up by the class teachers on these platforms
Resources and learning packs can be sent home to support the learning where possible

Early Years (Nursery and Reception)

A group timetable will be published on Tapestry and Google Classroom so that parents know when their child/ren can join live lesson
Wherever possible, a teacher and another member of staff will be present for live lessons
School uniform should be worn
Independent learning activities will be set on Tapestry.
School expectations for behaviour and attitudes will remain the same as when learning in school
Online safety rules will be reinforced during remote learning.
Hard copies of activities (where needed), papers and pencils can be sent to pupils’ homes. Parents can request this via the school office (office@stmwschool.org.uk).

Years 1-6

Pupils in Years 1-6 will have learning activities set on Google Classroom to complete independently or will have live lessons with a member of staff
Pupils can submit their work via their Google Classroom link and the teacher will provide feedback via this link
A group timetable will be published on Google Classroom so that parents know when their child/ren can join the live lessons
Wherever possible, a teacher and another member of staff will be present for live lessons
School uniform should be worn
Independent learning activities set on GoogleClassroom may include videos from recorded by members of staff or from external websites.
School expectations for behaviour and attitudes will remain the same as when learning in school
Online safety rules will be reinforced during remote learning.

Children are taught how to logon to GSuite and Google Classroom at school and all have individual usernames and passwords.

Assessing pupils’ work and progress:

Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, whole-class feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:

oral feedback during live lessons
class discussion
small group discussion
written feedback on work submitted via Google Docs
documents needing completion
audio message
phone calls/meetings with parents and carers
postcards sent home
individual quizzes eg Google quiz tool

Additional support for pupils with additional needs:

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and the Head of School/member of SLT will work with parents and carers to support those pupils in the following ways:

when planning for remote learning, we take a pupil centered approach, by taking the individual needs of your child and your home environment into consideration
meaningful conversations with parents, pupils and school staff occur regularly
individualised resource packs with visuals, social stories and timetables can be sent home
learning may be uploaded before the lesson with short explanations, symbols/pictures and this is supported by the class teacher or teaching assistant in a break out room
therapeutic support may still being accessed safely through phone calls, virtual appointments, pre-recorded sessions with parental consent and supervision at home and in school (Speech and Language Therapy, Dramatherapy, Art Therapy, Educational Psychologist)
daily pre-recorded lessons and short stories by the class teacher, teaching assistant may be uploaded to GoogleClassroom
high quality resources used to support the learning
regular check in (email/phone call) with the class teacher/member of SLT
